Testimonials

When selecting a trial firm for your legal representation, perhaps the most important consideration to make is how opposing counsel and other members of the legal community view the firm. This is what sets Phelan Law Group apart from many of its contemporaries.

In 2011, its founder, James Phelan, was selected by the Law Bulletin Publishing Company to be included in its annual “40 Under Forty” publication. Every year since 2000, the 40 Under Forty Committee considers hundreds of nominations before choosing who they believe to be forty of the most talented attorneys under the age of forty currently working in the state of Illinois. In 2011, the Law Bulletin Publishing Company received more than 1200 nominations for this prestigious honor. Additionally, Mr. Phelan was one of only ten attorneys in the state whose concentration was in the area of personal injury or construction defect litigation. Nominations must be submitted by attorneys unaffiliated with the nominee’s firm in order to be considered. The following quotations demonstrate the high regard in which Mr. Phelan is held in the eyes of his peers.

He is a bold and convincing voice in the courtroom.

He beat me twice. I am 0-2 with Jim, and he did it fair and square, and with great advocacy and grace. He showed me how ‘delivery’ is as important as the remark.

This firm handles many complex, high-exposure, multi-party cases. There is always a lot of maneuvering between the players which include attorneys, parties and insurance carriers. Jim was excellent at sorting out the players, recognizing where he and his client fit in, creating a strategy for optimal success and carrying it out.

It is refreshing to work with a lawyer unburdened by cynicism, and a true believer in the wisdom and the practice of the law.

Jim is confident of his skills in understanding [and] representing…his clients. He expects the same of those with whom he works and in doing so, he makes all of us and the process itself better for the experience.

Jim is emblematic of his generation’s view of ‘litigator.’ The developed, evolved, more professional approach is calmness, co-operation, competency, honesty, and integrity. Jim is the ‘poster lawyer’ of this effective – very effective – approach.

There are some lawyers who can be trusted from the start to do their job, manage the client and get good results while, at the same time, staying calm and professional. Jim is one of those lawyers.

He is a driven and respectful advocate who is willing to work with the other side to reach a common ground for the benefit of his client.
